In 2017, CLEAR RIVERS, collaborating with local and international partners, already started a successful feasibility study about the retrieval of plastic litter in rivers that carry plastic litter from the inland into the bay of Ambon.
With temporary Litter Traps made with locally available materials, CLEAR RIVERS could already prevent litter from reaching the sea. Although there was great support from Ambon City, the budget and technologies were limited and made it complicated to create a long-lasting project. The temporary installation allowed CLEAR RIVERS to collect data about the locations, improve the Litter Traps’ installation, strengthen the relationships with local partners, and turn this feasibility study into an updated, more effective proposal with a long-term plan: Ambon plastic-free project!
